By Judy Rix... Note: Before you read this chapter, please read "Post 9 -- Seven Ways to Make Your Home a Heaven on Earth."
-- Emulating the character traits of Jesus Christ is the way we become like Him. We're all on an eternal journey towards that goal, and none of us is there -- yet. No one has a perfectly heavenly home or a perfect family -- yet. So be kind with yourself and others as you progress in that direction day by day.

-- Family life is the ideal training ground for developing the qualities of Jesus Christ. That's where we actively practice following His example. When we don't do so well, we can repent and try again. We have an endless supply of "do-overs."
-- You have no real control over anyone except yourself. So even if you're the only one in the family who's trying to be Christlike, go ahead and be the example. Your actions will influence and inspire others. When contention arises, step in as a peacemaker. When fear threatens, confront it with faith. When negativity prevails, overpower it with positivity.
-- Whether you live in a mud hut or a mansion, do all you can to infuse your surroundings with love. Do whatever is within your power to make your family members happy. Guys, if your wife wants you to put the toilet seat down, do it. Ladies, if your husband needs to relax after work, don't immediately bombard him with the plumbing problems. Kids, if your siblings don't want you to take their things, then don't. How simple it is to just be kind and think of others' needs besides your own.
-- If the Savior were to come to your home, what would you do to make Him feel loved and welcome? Do those same things for your family!
