“Deep inside each of us is a need to have a home of refuge where peace and serenity prevail, a place where we can reset, regroup, and reenergize to prepare for future pressures. The ideal place is within the walls of our own homes, where we have done all we can to make the Lord Jesus Christ the centerpiece.” ...Elder Richard G. Scott

My husband and I used to watch a favorite TV show brimming with suspense, murder, and intrigue. Following that, we'd tune in to the 10:00 news. No wonder we couldn't get to sleep at night.
Gary Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said, ”If you hope to feel the spirit, be in the place where the spirit can easily dwell.” (2023 October General Conference) So I began a serious search for ways to re-make our environment into a place where the spirit could more easily dwell, including better TV and media choices.
We all envision our perfect home, don't we? How would you describe yours?

It's about the atmosphere and the people, not just the bricks and mortar. While we might not achieve a heavenly home until we're in heaven, a few small changes can significantly move us toward that ideal.
I've created seven separate blog posts (links below) with fun ideas for making your home a joyful retreat for your family. I invite you to try out one or two of the suggestions, then add your own inspired touches. Have fun and keep it simple.

“This house shall be a healthful habitation if it be built unto my name, and if the governor which shall be appointed unto it shall not suffer any pollution to come upon it. It shall be holy, or the Lord your God will not dwell therein.” (D&C 124:24)
“…He will make her wilderness like Eden and her desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.” (BOM 2 Nephi 8:3)
"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God." (D&C 88:119)
"And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places." (Bible. Isaiah 32:18)
"Through wisdom is a house built; and by understanding it is established, and by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches." (Bible. Proverbs 24:3-4)
